A Day with The Salty Mangrove

David Moyle and The Salty Mangrove crew joined us on the King's Birthday public holiday, Monday 6 October, for a riverside takeover at Bar Miette — a one-day-only party that brought the coastal spirit of New Brighton Beach to the banks of the Brisbane River.

With a deep respect for Australian seafood and coastal cooking, chef David Moyle is known for his elemental, fire-driven style — a sensibility he honed at his acclaimed Hobart restaurant, Franklin. Now behind The Salty Mangrove in the Northern Rivers, Moyle brings that same honest, produce-led approach to a relaxed, coastal setting inspired by the Mediterranean lifestyle of the Balearic Islands.

On the menu for the day, a selection of Dave's Balerico favourites like taramasalata with focaccia, snapper sandwiches with remoulade, lamb neck skewers with olive and seaweed, and whole grilled mud crabs on the hibachi. To drink, some of Salty Mangrove’s go-to cocktails like their Saltini and Mangrove Bloody Mary made the rounds, plus natural wines were flowing all afternoon long.

We kicked off from midday with records spinning by Dingo Balearico throughout.
